Overview

miR-520b is a microRNA that acts as a tumor suppressor by targeting the CD44 molecule. In head and neck cancer (HNC), miR-520b has been shown to inhibit the cancer stem cell phenotype, reducing cellular migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). It also sensitizes cancer cells to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Preclinical studies in xenograft models demonstrate that administration of miR-520b mimics can restrain tumorigenesis and liver colonization, while its silencing accelerates tumor growth.
