miR-888 is an oncogenic microRNA (miRNA) located on chromosome Xq27.3 within a genomic cluster of seven miRNAs. It is significantly up-regulated in advanced and aggressive prostate cancer (PCa), where it has been shown to promote cell proliferation, migration, and colony formation in vitro. Research conducted at Eastern Virginia Medical School has demonstrated that miR-888 can accelerate tumor formation in xenograft models. The miR-888 cluster is being investigated for its role in coordinating prostate cancer pathways and is being explored for potential therapeutic applications using exosome-based delivery systems to modulate cancer progression and metastasis.
