miR-9 is a microRNA (miRNA) that plays a critical role in modulating immune responses, particularly within dendritic cells (DCs). It is rapidly upregulated in DCs following stimulation with inflammatory signals such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS). miR-9 functions by targeting and suppressing the expression of various mRNAs that encode negative regulators of gene expression, thereby promoting an activated DC phenotype and enhancing their ability to stimulate T-cell responses. Preclinical research has demonstrated that dendritic cells engineered to overexpress miR-9 can significantly reduce tumor growth in melanoma models, suggesting its potential as a component of cell-based cancer immunotherapies.
