Overview

MIRA-55 is a novel oral small molecule pharmaceutical marijuana analog developed by MIRA Pharmaceuticals. It is under preclinical and early clinical investigation for the treatment of neuropathic pain, anxiety, and cognitive decline often associated with early-stage dementia. Unlike THC (the principal psychoactive compound in marijuana), MIRA-55 demonstrates a unique pharmacological profile characterized by lower potency at the CB1 receptor (reducing intoxicating effects) and higher activation of the CB2 receptor, which may provide therapeutic benefits with minimal psychoactivity. Preclinical studies have shown that MIRA-55 can enhance memory performance in animal models and consistently reduce anxiety-like behaviors across a range of doses, outperforming THC in both efficacy and stability of effect. The drug exhibits a monophasic dose-response for anxiolytic effects (unlike THC’s biphasic response), suggesting more predictable clinical outcomes. The U.S. DEA has determined that MIRA-55 is not classified as a controlled substance.
