Overview

MIRA1a is a novel, unscheduled synthetic analog of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) developed by MIRA Pharmaceuticals. It is designed to treat anxiety, cognitive decline (including that associated with early-stage dementia), and chronic or neuropathic pain. Unlike plant-derived THC, MIRA1a aims to provide therapeutic benefits without the negative side effects or impurities commonly associated with cannabis extracts. Preclinical studies suggest that MIRA1a not only treats anxiety and pain but may also enhance cognitive performance—counteracting the adverse cognitive effects typically seen with THC. The drug acts primarily through cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2, but is reported to have a differentiated pharmacological profile compared to THC itself. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has determined that MIRA1a is not considered a controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act[1][2][5][9].
