Overview

This is a combination of **miravirsen** (an antisense oligonucleotide directed against microRNA-122), **telaprevir** (a direct-acting antiviral targeting the hepatitis C virus NS3/4A serine protease), and **ribavirin** (a nucleoside analogue antiviral) developed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, particularly in patients who have failed prior therapy with pegylated interferon and ribavirin. Miravirsen exerts its effect by binding to and sequestering miR-122, a liver-specific microRNA required for HCV replication, thus suppressing viral replication. Telaprevir inhibits the viral NS3/4A protease, blocking polyprotein processing and viral replication. Ribavirin is a broad-spectrum antiviral with multiple proposed mechanisms, including inhibition of viral RNA synthesis. The combination aims to improve outcomes in difficult-to-treat patients, especially null responders, by targeting different stages of the viral life cycle and the viral host requirement[5][6][3].
