miroliverELAP is an external liver assist product (ELAP) developed by Miromatrix Medical, a subsidiary of United Therapeutics. It is a combination biologic/device designed to provide temporary liver support for patients suffering from acute liver failure (ALF). The system consists of a bioengineered liver (MIRO-001) integrated into an extracorporeal blood circuit. The bioengineered liver is created by decellularizing a porcine liver scaffold and recellularizing it with allogeneic human endothelial and liver cells. This system performs essential hepatic functions outside the patient's body, acting as a bridge to transplant or spontaneous recovery. It has received Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy (RMAT) designation from the FDA.
