Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Misopess is a controlled-release vaginal insert containing misoprostol, a synthetic prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) analogue, developed by Ferring Pharmaceuticals. It is indicated for cervical ripening and the induction of labor in pregnant women at or near term with an unfavorable cervix. The product features a hydrogel polymer reservoir that releases misoprostol at a constant rate (approximately 7 mcg/hour over 24 hours for the 200 mcg dose), facilitating cervical softening and stimulating uterine contractions. A key feature is its integral retrieval system, which allows for immediate cessation of drug delivery by removing the insert upon the onset of active labor or in the event of adverse reactions such as uterine tachysystole.
