Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of two uterotonic drugs used primarily for the prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analog that stimulates uterine contractions, while oxytocin is a hormone that induces rapid uterine contractions. When used together, they provide synergistic effects - oxytocin's immediate action combined with misoprostol's sustained effect on uterine contractility creates a more effective treatment for preventing and managing postpartum hemorrhage than either drug alone.
