Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mistletoe resinous extract is a botanical extract derived from the European mistletoe (*Viscum album*), currently in preclinical development by the Verein für Krebsforschung (VfK). While traditional mistletoe preparations used in integrative oncology are typically aqueous extracts, this resinous formulation is specifically designed to capture lipophilic components of the plant, such as triterpene acids, which are poorly soluble in water. The extract is intended for use as an integrative or complementary treatment for cancer, where it is reported to exert cytotoxic and immunomodulatory effects. Research by VfK is focused on characterizing the pharmaceutical properties of these resinous components to expand the therapeutic range of mistletoe-based oncology treatments.
