Mite allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) is a disease-modifying treatment for respiratory allergic diseases, such as bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis, triggered by house dust mites (HDM). The therapy involves the repeated administration of specific mite allergens (typically from *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *Dermatophagoides farinae*) to the patient. This process aims to induce immunological tolerance by modulating the T-cell response (shifting from Th2 to Th1/Treg), increasing the production of allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies, and reducing IgE-mediated inflammation. It can be delivered via subcutaneous injection (SCIT) or sublingual drops/tablets (SLIT). In the context of the Renji Hospital study, it is being evaluated for its impact on hyperactivity symptoms in children with respiratory allergies.
