Overview

mito2HOBA is a mitochondria-targeted small molecule scavenger of isolevuglandins (isoLGs), which are highly reactive dicarbonyl products of lipid peroxidation. By specifically localizing to the mitochondria, mito2HOBA prevents the isoLG-mediated modification and inactivation of critical mitochondrial enzymes such as long-chain acyl coenzyme A dehydrogenase (LCAD) and superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2). In preclinical models, mito2HOBA has demonstrated the ability to reduce oxidative stress, improve vasorelaxation, and attenuate hypertension and multi-organ damage associated with metabolic dysfunction. It was developed by researchers at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
