MitoCEHC is a mitochondria-targeted antioxidant conjugate consisting of the vitamin E metabolite **α-CEHC** (2,5,7,8-tetramethyl-2-(2'-carboxyethyl)-6-hydroxychroman) linked to a lipophilic **triphenylphosphonium (TPP)** cation via a lysine linker. The TPP moiety facilitates the selective accumulation of the molecule within the mitochondrial matrix, driven by the mitochondrial membrane potential. Once localized, the α-CEHC component acts as a potent scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby mitigating oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Research has demonstrated its efficacy in reducing oxidative damage in endothelial cells and its ability to accumulate in the mitochondria of diabetic mouse models (*db/db*), suggesting potential therapeutic utility in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases characterized by oxidative injury.
