Overview

Mitogard is a specialized formulation of cyclosporine developed by Maas BioLab in collaboration with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR). Designed specifically for intrathecal delivery (administration into the cerebrospinal fluid), Mitogard aims to overcome the blood-brain barrier limitations of systemic cyclosporine. It acts as a direct mitochondrial neuroprotectant, targeting mitochondrial stability in neurons to prevent cell death. The drug is being developed for the treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and seizure-induced brain injury resulting from exposure to organophosphate nerve agents. Maas BioLab has received federal funding, including an SBIR grant from the NINDS, to advance the development of Mitogard for ALS.
