Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MitoK is a preclinical-stage small molecule therapeutic being developed by Neuroene Therapeutics for the treatment of medication-resistant seizures (refractory epilepsy). It is a mitochondrial-targeted analog of Vitamin K designed to enhance mitochondrial bioenergetics and reduce oxidative stress within neurons. By acting as an alternative electron carrier or improving the efficiency of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, MitoK aims to restore ATP production and stabilize neuronal membranes. This mechanism is intended to prevent the hyperexcitability associated with seizures that do not respond to conventional anti-seizure medications, providing a neuroprotective effect in the brain.
