Overview

Mitolactol is a synthetic derivative of hexitol and an oral alkylating agent with antineoplastic and radiosensitizing properties. It acts primarily by alkylating DNA via actual or derived epoxide groups, leading to inhibition of DNA and RNA synthesis, which results in cytotoxic effects on cancer cells. Mitolactol has been investigated for the treatment of various cancers, including brain and central nervous system tumors, as well as cervical cancer. Its unique features include oral bioavailability compared to other alkylating agents that may require intravenous administration[1][2][4][5][6][7].
