Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mitoxantrone hydrochloride liposomal is a liposome-encapsulated formulation of the anthracenedione antineoplastic agent mitoxantrone. It acts primarily as a DNA intercalator and an inhibitor of topoisomerase II, leading to DNA strand breaks and inhibition of DNA synthesis and repair. The liposomal delivery system is designed to enhance the drug's accumulation in tumor tissues via the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect while reducing systemic toxicities, particularly the cumulative cardiotoxicity associated with conventional mitoxantrone. Developed by CSPC Pharmaceutical Group, with clinical research support from institutions like the Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University, it was first approved in China in 2022 for the treatment of peripheral T-cell lymphoma and is currently being investigated for various solid tumors and other hematological malignancies.
