Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Duoneda is a liposomal formulation of mitoxantrone hydrochloride, an anthracenedione antineoplastic agent. Developed by CSPC Pharmaceutical Group, it is designed to optimize the therapeutic index of mitoxantrone by utilizing a liposomal delivery system that enhances drug concentration in tumor tissues while minimizing systemic exposure and associated toxicities, such as cardiotoxicity. Mitoxantrone acts by intercalating into DNA and inhibiting topoisomerase II, leading to DNA strand breaks and interference with DNA repair and synthesis. In China, Duoneda was the first liposomal mitoxantrone to receive marketing authorization, specifically for the treatment of relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL). It is also being evaluated in clinical trials for other hematological malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
