Overview

Miunin is a class of small-molecule mitochondrial uncouplers being developed by Mito Biopharma. These compounds are designed to mimic the activity of mitochondrial uncoupling proteins (UCP1, UCP2, and UCP3) to dissipate the mitochondrial proton gradient, thereby increasing metabolic rate and reducing oxidative stress. Type 1 miunins specifically mimic UCP1, which is primarily involved in thermogenesis, while Type 2 miunins mimic UCP2 and UCP3, which play roles in antioxidant defense and metabolic regulation. The lead compound is currently in IND-enabling studies for a broad range of indications, including metabolic disorders like non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and type 2 diabetes, various solid and hematological cancers (metastatic colon, liver, and pancreatic cancers, as well as T-ALL and AML), and neurodegenerative diseases.
