Overview

Mivacurium chloride is a short-acting, non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent (NMBA) of the benzylisoquinolinium class. It acts as a competitive antagonist at the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors located at the motor end-plate of the neuromuscular junction, thereby blocking neuromuscular transmission and inducing skeletal muscle relaxation. Mivacurium is unique among non-depolarizing NMBAs for its rapid metabolism by plasma cholinesterase, which results in a short duration of action and a relatively fast recovery profile. It is primarily used as an adjunct to general anesthesia to facilitate endotracheal intubation and to provide muscle relaxation during surgical procedures or mechanical ventilation. In clinical research, such as the ChiCTR2400081644 trial, it is evaluated for its ability to improve hemodynamic stability and airway management conditions during endoscopic surgeries, including holmium laser lithotripsy for urinary tract stones.
