Drug intelligence / Profile preview
mivalsecovatein (NVX-CoV2373 XBB.1.5, NVX-CoV2601) is an adjuvanted, recombinant protein subunit COVID-19 vaccine developed by Novavax to target the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron XBB.1.5 subvariant. The vaccine consists of recombinant SARS-CoV-2 spike (S) glycoproteins stabilized in their prefusion conformation, which are formulated into nanoparticles. It is administered alongside Novavax's proprietary saponin-based Matrix-M adjuvant, which enhances the immune response by promoting the recruitment and activation of antigen-presenting cells at the injection site, leading to robust humoral and cellular immunity. mivalsecovatein is indicated for active immunization to prevent COVID-19 in individuals aged 12 years and older. In 2024, Novavax entered into a co-exclusive licensing agreement with Sanofi to commercialize the vaccine globally, except in regions with existing partnerships such as India (Serum Institute of India), South Korea (SK bioscience), and Japan (Takeda).
