Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Miwu oil soft capsule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) product developed by Chengdu High-tech Zone Kaiyuan Pharmaceutical for the treatment of tension-type headache. The active ingredient, Miwu oil, is an essential oil extracted from the roots and rhizomes of *Valeriana jatamansi* (also known as *Valeriana wallichii* or Zhizhu Xiang). This botanical extract is traditionally utilized for its sedative, analgesic, and antispasmodic properties. It is believed to exert its therapeutic effect by modulating the GABAergic system, specifically acting as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA-A receptors, which helps alleviate the symptoms of tension-type headaches. The drug has undergone Phase 1 clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety and tolerability in healthy volunteers.
