Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A **standardized allergenic extract biologic** composed of five grass pollens—**agrostis gigantea pollen**, **anthoxanthum odoratum pollen**, **dactylis glomerata pollen**, **phleum pratense pollen**, and **poa pratensis pollen**—formulated as an injection solution typically standardized in **Bioequivalent Allergy Units per mL**. It has been developed by **ALK-Abello** and **Greer Laboratories** for the **diagnosis** of immediate hypersensitivity and for **allergen immunotherapy** in patients with grass-pollen allergic rhinitis or hay fever who demonstrate type I skin sensitivity to these grasses. Mechanistically, the product presents relevant grass pollen allergens to the immune system; in diagnostic use it cross-links **allergen-specific IgE** bound to mast cells to trigger immediate hypersensitivity reactions, while in repeated therapeutic administration it is intended to induce immunologic tolerance and reduce allergic symptom burden.
