Overview
Miya BM is a live biotherapeutic product (LBP) containing the butyric acid-producing bacterial strain *Clostridium butyricum* MIYAIRI 588 (CBM 588). Developed and marketed by Miyarisan Pharmaceutical, it is an orally administered tablet used to modulate the gut microbiota and treat gastrointestinal conditions such as diarrhea, constipation, and dysbiosis. The mechanism of action involves the production of butyric acid, a short-chain fatty acid that provides energy to colonocytes, maintains the intestinal barrier, and regulates immune responses. Beyond its established use in gastroenterology since its 1970 approval in Japan, Miya BM is being investigated for its ability to enhance the efficacy of cancer immunotherapies by optimizing the host microbiome.
