Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Miya Flora EX (ミヤフローラEX) is an over-the-counter gastrointestinal combination product developed and marketed by Miyarisan Pharmaceutical. Classified as a designated quasi-drug in Japan, it is indicated for regulating intestinal function, relieving abdominal bloating, constipation, loose stools, and promoting digestion. The formulation combines two active ingredients: Clostridium butyricum Miyairi (a probiotic butyric acid-producing bacterium) and ursodeoxycholic acid (a bile acid). Clostridium butyricum Miyairi survives gastric acid to reach the large intestine, where it produces short-chain fatty acids (such as butyric acid and acetic acid) to foster beneficial gut microbiota and suppress harmful pathogens. Ursodeoxycholic acid acts as a choleretic agent, stimulating bile and pancreatic secretions to facilitate the digestion and absorption of dietary fats, while also modulating bile acid-activated receptors such as GPBAR1 (TGR5) and FXR.
