MK-136 is a novel small molecule alpha-carboline derivative developed as an inhibitor of breast tumor kinase (Brk, also known as protein tyrosine kinase 6 or PTK6). Developed through a collaboration between the University of Greifswald and Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, MK-136 targets PTK6 to modulate cellular signaling pathways involved in tumor cell migration, proliferation, and metastasis. In preclinical studies, MK-136 has demonstrated the ability to significantly impair both non-directional and directional migration of breast cancer cell lines, such as MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468, highlighting its potential therapeutic utility in breast cancer.
