MK-1403 is an investigational, orally administered monoclonal antibody developed by Merck & Co. (MSD) that targets interleukin-6 (IL-6). It is being developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and potentially other cardiometabolic conditions where chronic inflammation plays a significant role in disease progression. IL-6 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine known to contribute to insulin resistance and increased cardiovascular risk. MK-1403 is engineered to neutralize IL-6 signaling, thereby reducing systemic inflammation as measured by markers such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP). To enable the oral delivery of a large biologic molecule, the drug is co-formulated with a permeation enhancer additive designed to facilitate absorption through the gastrointestinal tract.
