Overview

MK-3134 is a small molecule drug developed by Merck Sharp & Dohme. It acts as an antagonist or inverse agonist of the histamine H3 receptor in the central nervous system. The H3 receptor is a presynaptic autoreceptor that regulates the synthesis and release of histamine and modulates other neurotransmitters involved in cognitive processes. By blocking or inversely activating this receptor, MK-3134 increases neurotransmitter release and has been investigated for its potential to improve cognitive function. Clinical studies have evaluated its effects on cognitive dysfunction and dementia, including use in models simulating Alzheimer's disease-related impairment[1][5][7].
