Overview

MK-3866 is a small molecule metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) inhibitor developed by Merck Sharp & Dohme for the treatment of bacterial infections, particularly those caused by resistant gram-negative bacteria expressing MBLs. Its primary mechanism is to inhibit class B beta-lactamases (metallo-beta-lactamases), thereby restoring the antibacterial activity of beta-lactam antibiotics against resistant strains. The drug was investigated in phase 1 clinical trials, including studies on its pharmacokinetics in patients with renal and hepatic impairment. Development has been discontinued and it has not received regulatory approval for any indication[1][2][3][5].
