MK-5 (also referred to as MK5) is a novel alpha-carboline derivative that acts as an inhibitor of breast tumor kinase (Brk), also known as protein tyrosine kinase 6 (PTK6). Developed by researchers at German academic institutions, including Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg and the University of Greifswald, MK-5 has been investigated in preclinical studies for its ability to modulate breast cancer cell migration. By targeting Brk/PTK6, MK-5 impairs both non-directional and directional migration of breast cancer cells, such as MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468, suggesting potential therapeutic utility in preventing breast cancer metastasis and dissemination.
