Overview
MK-6213 is a small molecule drug developed by Merck Sharp & Dohme. It functions as a cholesterol absorption inhibitor by acting as an inhibitor of Niemann-Pick C1-like protein 1 (NPC1L1). The drug was investigated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia and other lipid disorders, including atherosclerosis and hypercholesterolemia, focusing on cardiovascular diseases and endocrinology/metabolic disease. Clinical trials assessed its efficacy in lowering LDL cholesterol, both as a monotherapy and in combination with atorvastatin. Development reached Phase 2 clinical trials but was ultimately discontinued.
