Overview
MK-6913 is a potent and selective small molecule agonist of the estrogen receptor beta (ERβ). It was developed as a non-hormonal treatment for vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes) in postmenopausal women. The drug acts by selectively activating ERβ, which is thought to mediate beneficial effects on vasomotor symptoms without the risks associated with estrogen receptor alpha activation. MK-6913 originated from a collaboration between Karo Bio and Merck & Co., but its development was discontinued after Phase II trials failed to meet efficacy criteria for hot flash reduction[1][5][7].
