MK-8655 is an oral small molecule antihyperglycaemic agent that was developed by Merck & Co. for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The drug reached phase 1 clinical trials, where it was evaluated for its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in patients with type 2 diabetes. The primary endpoint included reduction in fasting plasma glucose concentrations after multiple daily administrations. However, the precise mechanism of action remains undefined in public sources. Development of MK-8655 was discontinued after phase 1 trials.
