MK2-23 is a **mouse-derived anti-idiotypic monoclonal antibody** that mimics the high molecular weight melanoma-associated antigen (HMW-MAA), also known as CSPG4 or MCSP. It was developed as an *active immunotherapeutic agent* for **melanoma**. MK2-23 was designed to elicit an immune response (both humoral and cellular) in patients by provoking antibodies that recognize HMW-MAA, thus stimulating anti-tumor immunity against melanoma. Immune responses have been observed in preclinical models and some human studies, showing both antibody production and delayed-type hypersensitivity against melanoma cells. However, due to concerns about safety and standardization, MK2-23 itself never entered extensive clinical trials. DNA vaccine formats expressing MK2-23 as single-chain variable fragments (scFv) have also been developed for experimental cancer immunotherapy. The primary developer was an academic research group rather than a pharmaceutical company[1][2][3][6].
