Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MLAB001 is a preclinical-stage small molecule therapeutic candidate being developed by MLAB Biosciences for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD). The drug acts as an inhibitor of 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-PGDH), the primary enzyme responsible for the metabolic degradation of Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). By inhibiting 15-PGDH, MLAB001 increases the local concentration of PGE2 in muscle tissue, which has been shown to enhance the function and proliferation of muscle stem cells (satellite cells). This mechanism aims to promote muscle regeneration and repair, potentially counteracting the progressive muscle wasting and fibrosis associated with dystrophin deficiency.
