Overview

MLS-289 is a first-in-class small-molecule broad-spectrum antiviral drug developed by MLS Bio (formerly Esfam Biotech). It functions by targeting the host cellular protein CD151, a member of the tetraspanin family that plays a critical role in the entry and trafficking of various viruses. Preclinical studies have shown that MLS-289, particularly in an inhaled formulation known as delcetravir, can rapidly clear lung inflammation associated with viral infections such as COVID-19. The program has received funding from the Australian Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) and has completed Pre-IND engagement with the FDA, positioning it for clinical development against a range of infectious diseases.
