MLS102 is a murine monoclonal antibody that specifically recognizes the sialosyl-Tn (sTn) antigen, a carbohydrate epitope [O-linked NeuAc(alpha 2-->6)GalNAc] frequently overexpressed on mucins in various adenocarcinomas. Developed primarily for diagnostic and potentially therapeutic applications, MLS102 has been utilized in immunoscintigraphy (often labeled with Indium-111) to detect primary and recurrent colorectal cancers. It also serves as a highly specific immunohistochemical marker for distinguishing malignant tissues, particularly in the pancreas, from normal or inflammatory tissues. Its high reactivity with digestive tract cancers, including those of the esophagus, stomach, and colon, makes it a valuable tool for studying tumor-associated glycosylation changes. Clinical evaluation in the 1990s demonstrated its potential for tumor localization, although its murine nature can trigger human anti-mouse antibody (HAMA) responses.
