Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MLT-001 is a first-in-class mucus modulator being developed by MucoLife Therapeutics for the treatment of muco-obstructive lung diseases, including cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and bronchiectasis. It is an inhaled peptide therapy composed of an oligomer of naturally occurring amino acids. The drug's mechanism of action involves capturing and removing calcium ions (Ca2+) that mediate the stabilization and aggregation of mucus in the airways. By sequestering these ions, MLT-001 dissolves mucus plugs and improves airway clearance. It is currently in the pre-clinical stage, with the developer preparing for first-in-human and IND-enabling studies.
