MM009 is a preclinical-stage mucosal antibody being developed by Mucommune for the treatment and prevention of bacterial vaginosis (BV). The drug utilizes Mucommune’s proprietary "muco-trapping" technology, which involves engineering antibodies to bind both the target pathogen and the mucin fibers in the vaginal mucus. By tethering pathogenic bacteria—such as those associated with BV biofilms like *Gardnerella vaginalis*—to the mucus layer, the antibody effectively prevents the bacteria from reaching and colonizing the underlying epithelium. This mechanism allows the trapped pathogens to be naturally cleared from the body through normal mucus turnover, potentially offering a non-antibiotic approach to managing BV and reducing the high rates of recurrence associated with current standard-of-care treatments.
