Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MM019 (also known as AnQlar or GCPQ) is a preclinical-stage, mucoadhesive, amphiphilic chitosan derivative developed by Nanomerics and licensed to Virpax. Formulated as an intranasal spray ("Molecular Mask"), MM019 is designed for the prophylaxis of viral infections, including COVID-19 and influenza. The drug consists of quaternary ammonium palmitoyl glycol chitosan, a positively charged polymer that binds electrostatically to negatively charged viral particles such as SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses. This electrostatic binding physically blocks the virus from interacting with host cell receptors, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), thereby preventing viral entry and subsequent replication in the nasal mucosa.
