MMP-2 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) research compound designed to silence or knock down the expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), also known as gelatinase A. MMP-2 is a zinc-dependent proteolytic endopeptidase that plays a critical role in extracellular matrix remodeling, tumor invasion, and metastasis. By utilizing the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, MMP-2 siRNA mediates the sequence-specific degradation of MMP-2 mRNA, thereby reducing the levels of the functional enzyme. Preclinical research has investigated the use of MMP-2 siRNA in various disease contexts, including glioblastoma, prostate cancer, hepatic fibrosis, and cardiac ischemia/reperfusion injury. It is primarily available as a research-use-only (RUO) reagent from suppliers such as Santa Cruz Biotechnology.
