Overview

MMP-9 shRNA refers to a class of short-hairpin RNA (shRNA) gene-silencing constructs designed to knock down the expression of Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). MMP-9 is a proangiogenic and pro-metastatic enzyme involved in the degradation of the extracellular matrix, playing a critical role in tumor invasion, metastasis, angiogenesis, and inflammation. These shRNA constructs utilize the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway to induce the degradation of target-specific MMP-9 mRNA, thereby reducing protein levels. MMP-9 shRNA is primarily utilized in preclinical and research settings, often delivered via lentiviral vectors or nanoparticle systems (such as solid lipid nanoparticles). It has been explored in experimental models for various conditions, including glioblastoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and corneal neovascularization. While available as research reagents from vendors like Santa Cruz Biotechnology, it is not currently a proprietary drug asset associated with a single commercial developer.
