**MMV055** is a novel antimalarial compound in early clinical development, designed as a long-acting injectable for malaria prevention. MMV055 is structurally distinct from atovaquone, binding to a different site on the same target, and shows no cross-resistance with atovaquone-resistant parasite strains. Its activity targets malaria parasites in the liver, bloodstream, and even in the mosquito vector, making it suitable for both treatment and prevention. MMV055 is a potential partner for MMV371 in fixed-dose combinations aimed at extended malaria prophylaxis.
