Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MMV533 (formerly SAR441121) is a novel small molecule acylguanidine antimalarial compound developed through a collaboration between Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV) and Sanofi. It is designed to treat uncomplicated malaria caused by *Plasmodium falciparum* by targeting the asexual blood stages of the parasite. MMV533 is characterized by a long elimination half-life of approximately 104–127 hours, which supports its potential as a component of simplified or single-dose combination therapies intended to manage emerging resistance to artemisinin and other partner drugs. The compound has demonstrated an acceptable safety and tolerability profile in Phase 1 clinical trials and is currently in early clinical development.
