Overview

MN-Gup-GOS is a synbiotic formulation comprising the probiotic strain *Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis* MN-Gup and the prebiotic galactooligosaccharide (GOS). It is primarily investigated for its therapeutic potential in managing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The mechanism of action involves the modulation of the gut microbiota, specifically increasing the abundance of beneficial *Bifidobacterium* species, which in turn alters serum bile acid profiles (reducing deoxycholic acid and lithocholic acid) and stimulates the secretion of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Clinical trial results indicate that the synbiotic combination is more effective at reducing fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, and insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) than the probiotic strain alone, likely due to the synergistic effects of the prebiotic component on microbial metabolism and host endocrine signaling.
