Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MND-2119 is a novel formulation of ethyl icosapentate (icosapent ethyl) being developed by Mochida Pharmaceutical. It is a highly purified ethyl ester of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid. MND-2119 is designed to optimize the pharmacokinetic profile and cellular uptake of EPA compared to conventional formulations such as Epadel. EPA acts as a precursor to anti-inflammatory eicosanoids and serves as an agonist for G protein-coupled receptor 120 (GPR120/FFAR4) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), which collectively modulate lipid metabolism and inflammatory responses. Clinical pharmacology studies in Japan are currently evaluating its effects on plasma and cellular EPA levels, EPA-derived metabolites, and inflammatory cytokines in healthy volunteers.
