Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MNK-155 is an investigational extended-release oral formulation combining hydrocodone bitartrate (an opioid analgesic) and acetaminophen (a non-opioid analgesic), developed for the management of moderate to moderately severe acute pain where the use of an opioid is appropriate. The formulation includes both immediate-release and extended-release components to provide rapid onset and sustained pain relief with a 12-hour dosing interval. It was engineered using Mallinckrodt's proprietary technology in combination with Depomed’s Acuform drug delivery platform, which allows targeted delivery in the upper gastrointestinal tract for prolonged retention and absorption. Clinical studies demonstrated that MNK-155 provides significant pain reduction compared to placebo after surgery (e.g., bunionectomy), with a lower abuse potential than immediate-release formulations as measured by human abuse liability studies[1][2][3][4][5][6].
