MNO-863 is an investigational live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consisting of the bacterial strain *Christensenella intestinihominis*, developed by Moon (Guangzhou) Biotech (MoonBio). It is being developed as a second-generation probiotic for the treatment of metabolic disorders, including obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The mechanism of action involves modulating the gut microbiome to increase the abundance of short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing bacteria. These SCFAs subsequently induce the secretion of intestinal hormones, specifically glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and peptide YY (PYY), which help regulate glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, and satiety. MNO-863 has received IND approval from the FDA for obesity and is currently in Phase 1 clinical development for multiple metabolic indications.
