MNP-miR-205 is a nanoparticle-based RNA therapy designed to restore the levels of miR-205, a tumor-suppressor microRNA that is frequently downregulated in prostate cancer. The formulation consists of iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) layered with polyethylene imine (PEI) polymer to facilitate the delivery of miR-205. This theranostic agent is specifically developed to address docetaxel resistance in prostate cancer by enhancing chemosensitivity and inducing apoptosis. In preclinical studies, MNP-miR-205 demonstrated efficient cellular uptake, bypassed endosomal degradation, and significantly reduced tumor volume and weight in xenograft mouse models. The formulation also incorporates indocyanine green (ICG) dye to enable tumor tracking and imaging, providing a groundbreaking theranostic approach for prostate cancer management.
