Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MnP3 is a next-generation, brain-penetrant manganese porphyrin-based superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimic. It is designed to protect normal brain tissue from radiation-induced damage by scavenging deleterious free radicals generated during radiotherapy. Unlike earlier SOD mimics, MnP3 is specifically engineered for enhanced blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetration and a favorable safety profile. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its ability to accumulate in the brain and significantly reduce radiation-induced DNA damage, lipid peroxidation, apoptosis, and microglia activation, potentially preventing long-term cognitive deficits associated with brain irradiation.
